[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Just moved here from out of state and need to register your vehicle in the State of California? From California and just purchased a vehicle with an out-of-state title? You’ve found the right people to help you through the registration process. ELCAJONDMV.COM has the right personnel, experience and knowledge to help you get those California License Plates that you need to get out and enjoy the great attractions San Diego has to offer without spending hours at the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Every state has a basic set of rules that must be adhered to when registering a vehicle and California is no exception. Knowing and understanding these basic requirements can be a challenge all by itself. As with any government agency it’s all in the proper paperwork.

Are you an active duty military service member? Home of record in a state other than California? Know your rights. Did you know that as a Non-Resident Active Duty Service Member you are exempt from paying the Vehicle Licensing Fee? Your local Field Office employee will not tell you of this right. If you don’t ask, they won’t tell!

The following documents will be required to complete the registration process and obtain a California Title:

  • Out-of-state Title
  • Smog Certification (vehicles 1975 and older are exempt)
  • Application for Title and Registration (REG 343)
  • Verification of Vehicle (REG 31)
  • Weight Certification (Commercial Vehicles) – Commercial Vehicles are defined as any vehicle that has the capacity to carry a load. These include: Pickup Trucks, Semi Trucks, Passenger Vehicle for business purposes and Vans (without seats).

Documents that may be required:

  • Sales Contract for proof of Sales Tax paid when purchasing vehicle
  • Statement of Facts (REG 256)

One thing to remember when registering a vehicle in the State of California for the first time, is that if it does not meet the 7,500-mile rule, it must comply with California State Emissions. Any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles is considered a new vehicle, no matter what year it was manufactured.

The staff at ELCAJONDMV.COM has the answers to your registration process questions and specializes in Non-Resident Transfers.

  • What and where do I get a Vehicle Verification

What is a Weight Certification

  • Don’t hold the Title for your vehicle? No problem; just submit your Registration Card from the state where your vehicle is currently registered, in lieu of the title, and we can register your vehicle without obtaining a California Title.
  • You can obtain a Smog Certification from any California Smog Check Inspection Station – Certificates are good for 90 days from date of inspection.
  • Verification of Vehicle (Vin Verification) is an inspection of the vehicle to ensure the vehicle VIN has not been tampered with, corresponds with the Out-of-State documents and meets California safety and emission requirements. The inspection can be obtained through the local DMV Field Office or any CA Licensed Vehicle Verifier
  • A Weight Certification can be obtained from any establishment that has a commercial scale and measures the Unladen Weight of a Commercial Vehicle. The Unladen Weight of the vehicle is used to determine the vehicles registration weight fees.

You can process your Non-Resident Transfer at any California DMV Field Office and spend several hours trying to navigate the registration process or try our experts at The Tag Stop for an easy, stress free experience.
